The NESSY (NEtwork Sensing for collaborative robot SafetY) project kick starts the development of an innovative sensing platform as key enabler in advanced manufacturing.
In industrial environments, human workers interact with increasingly autonomous machinery and collaborative robots. To ensure workspace safety and production efficiency during human-robot cooperation (HRC), continuous and accurate tracking and perception of workers’ activities is mandatory.
The project explores a combination of passive sensing techniques (that do not require the worker to wear radio tags), which aim to track, recognize and analyse human-robot interactions continuously, and without the need for privacy-intrusive video. A verification protocol will be designed to stress-test the system to ensure workers’ safety in selected usage scenarios.
